Our Mission

Buying a mattress online means trusting a review — and too many mattress review sites are owned by the brands they rate. SleepVerdict is editorially independent. We purchase every mattress at retail price, sleep on it for a minimum of 21 nights, and run standardized firmness, motion transfer, and temperature tests before publishing a score.

We also cover pillows, sleep trackers, bedding, and sleep supplements — anything that affects how well you rest.

Our Team

Sleep science professionals and experienced product testers.

Natalie Chen NC
Natalie Chen Editor-in-Chief Certified Sleep Science Coach (CSSC), former Consumer Reports senior analyst

Natalie spent four years at Consumer Reports testing everything from blenders to baby monitors before she got assigned the mattress beat and discovered her true calling — lying down professionally. She's personally slept on 80+ mattresses for at least two weeks each, using a pressure mapping pad, a motion sensor, and the brutally honest feedback of a partner who will absolutely tell her when a mattress is terrible at 3am. Her testing methodology measures what actually matters: pressure relief for side sleepers, motion isolation for couples, and edge support for people who sleep like they're trying to escape the bed. She got her Certified Sleep Science Coach credential specifically because she was tired of mattress companies telling her she was testing wrong.

Jordan Baker JB
Jordan Baker Staff Writer & Sleep Tech Reviewer Former Verge consumer electronics journalist, 3+ years quantified sleep tracking data

Jordan is a self-described terrible sleeper who turned his dysfunction into a career — he hasn't slept through the night naturally since college, which makes him the perfect guinea pig for every sleep gadget, tracker, and supplement that claims to fix what pills and meditation couldn't. He wears three sleep trackers simultaneously and has a spreadsheet correlating sleep scores across Oura, Whoop, and Apple Watch that's probably the saddest document on his hard drive. His supplement reviews include actual bloodwork panels before and after 30-day trials, because 'I felt more rested' isn't data. He previously covered consumer electronics for The Verge and brings that same obsessive benchmarking energy to white noise machines and weighted blankets.

Dr. Maya Patel MP
Dr. Maya Patel Contributing Sleep Medicine Specialist MD, Board-certified Sleep Medicine, AASM Fellow, 5,000+ patients treated

Dr. Patel is a board-certified sleep medicine physician who has treated over 5,000 patients with sleep disorders and reads SleepVerdict reviews with the same skepticism she applies to pharmaceutical sales reps. She's the reason we stopped recommending that one popular memory foam mattress — she flagged that its 'cooling gel' claims were thermodynamically impossible and the independent testing proved her right. She reviews every health claim on the site, vets our mattress firmness recommendations against actual spinal alignment research, and occasionally writes a strongly worded correction when Jordan gets too enthusiastic about a supplement that hasn't passed a double-blind trial. Her clinic in San Diego is booked four months out, which she mentions not to brag but to explain why her review turnaround times are terrible.

How We Work

Every mattress we review spends at least 3 weeks in our testing rotation. We measure pressure relief, edge support, motion isolation, and temperature regulation using calibrated instruments — not just subjective comfort impressions. We also survey a panel of sleepers across different body types and sleep positions.

Our full process is documented in our testing methodology.
